Used to help people solve particular
problems and develop new opportunities,
the three stage Egan s model of
counselling is based around the
concept of empowerment. The below
details thequestions at each stage:
What's Happening
- This is about perspective and
the individual telling their current
situationand then stepping back
to see things from a different view
point.
What Is It I want Instead
- After delving into the current
situation the second stage of the
three stage Egan s model is to see
how things could be better or improved
and from here work out what they
actually want
How To Achieve It
- Once the couselling session has
acheived the first two stages strategies
and a path are developed to reach
the newly identified goal.
The model can be used over a number
of sessions. The emphasis should
always be on the person speaking,
applying the model to them rather
than making the person fit the model.
